John Willard Padgett of South Orleans and Boca Raton, Florida, died July 16 in Lexington, Kentucky, while visiting his son. He was 73. Born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Mr. Padgett attended Georgia Tech and was graduated from New York University with a degree in chemical engineering. From 1941 to 1945 he served in the Navy on the flight deck of the aircraft carrier USS Ticonderoga during engagements in the South Pacific. Mr. Padgett was a retired chemical engineer and senior vice president of Moore & Munger, a chemical research and development company in Fairfield, Connecticut, which also distributed wax and petroleum derivatives. He was personally responsible for more then 15 patents. In retirement Mr. Padgett enjoyed golf, boating and salt water fishing. He was a member of several professional and technical societies. He is survived by his wife, Shirley Trumpy Padgett,; two sons, Thomas C. of Lexington, Kentucky, and John F. of East Harwich; a daughter, Gail E. Padgett of South Orleans; a brother, Edward D. Padgett of Morristown, New Jersey; two sisters, Betty Biathrow of Orleans and Mary Jane Van Esselstyn of East Orleans; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. A service was held July 19 in Lexington, Kentucky. 42,43
